Demand for food packaging may rise as Olympics get underway

A rising number of chefs and other caterers are making use of biodegradable food packaging and demand for such catering disposables may be particularly high this month due to the Olympic fever that has hit the UK.

London is set to be play host to the world’s more comprehensive sporting contest and athletes and spectators from around the globe will amass in the city for the beginning of the celebrations. Getting under way on July 27th, the Games may lead to a rise in demand for convenience food in the capital, and indeed elsewhere around the country.

One man who things his business will boom during the two-week event is chef Richard Corrigan. He said: “We’re hugely looking forward to the Games. With all the attention on London, and the influx of visitors, it’s an opportunity to showcase all that is good from these islands. We look forward to welcoming visitors to a taste of seasonal British and Irish produce,” Bloomberg reports.

Fellow industry expert Chris Galvin from Galvin La Chapelle also revealed he is gearing up for the impending events. He remarked: “Our plans are to be super-flexible. We’ve cross-trained so that we can send staff from one restaurant to another if one gets busy. We want to show the world how good the food and service is in London.”

Meanwhile, Angela Hartnett from Murano noted she is “really excited” about the Olympics and believes London will be “buzzing”, with the whole world focussing on it. This can “only be a good thing” for eateries in the city both during the Games and beyond, she claimed.

Those firms that do not have the necessary catering disposables, such as biodegradable food packaging, in advance of the games may struggle to cope with demand and ultimately, this could harm their profits.
