Allow your child to share information with you free of interruption. Take the time to let your child talk to you in a quiet place, and always give your undivided attention. Give children control over some areas of their life. Children need boundaries and guidance, but being too strict and rigid in every area can leave them feeling crushed and stifled. Give them the chance to make some choices on their own, such as what they wear for the day, or how they organize their room.

Give your toddler a real treat for his or her birthday, by going an entire day without saying “No.” So long as they aren’t in danger, allow them to spend the day doing what they want. Children need to be kept up-to-date with the right immunizations to protect against sudden and serious illness.
