A Camelot Siege at the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas

Few were surprised, but all were impressed by the performance of the 2012 Newmarket 2,000 Guineas. The season’s first classic was once again won by a horse trained by Aiden O’Brien something he can claim on no less than five previous occasions. Although Camelot was the favourite to take the top prize, it was only the third time that the favourite had clinched first spot in the previous 18 years. This may have put some people off cashing in and going for the win and with French Fifteen at 12/1 losing by a neck, many punters will be ruing their bad luck. Those that did win would have had the best odds by placing a bet online on horse racing at Bet Victor.

A Pattern Forms

Avid race fans would have recognised that Magnier, the co-owner of Camelot has had a piece of the cake four times in the last eight years. There was also a winner for Magnier as far back as 1998, but recently there has been resurgence and the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas are starting to become known as the Magnier’s Stakes. There are plenty of fans of Camelot, Magnier’s latest champion after the colt won The Racing Post Trophy in 2011, The 2,000 Guineas and the Epsom Derby in 2012.

A Racing Pedigree

This year’s winning trainer Aidan O’Brien has also been prolific at the 2,000 Guineas with a total of six wins, four of which have been in the last eight years and all of them have been horses owned by Magnier. Joseph O’Brien, the son of Aiden was the rider of Camelot at Newmarket which was one of his eight major wins and still at the tender age of nineteen. Anyone betting on horses regularly would do well to follow the young jockey as he is building a reputation for riding winners that is growing rapidly.
