Figuring out outs and pot probabilities is frequently used as a starting point for a Texas Hold’em Poker player on whether to draw and try and make their hand. However this in my viewpoint shouldn’t be the sole basis of your call as to whether you want to draw for another card. You also need to decide in relation to whether the hand that you’re making an attempt to hit will win you the pot or not. The right way to work out pot %s : In this example, if the existing pot contains $80, and the amount required at the subsequent call is $20, the pot is laying you chances of $80 to $20 or four to one. A hand that’s four to one implies that you’ll hit once in each 5 tries.

This next example accounts for working out pot chances and outs. Believe that your hole cards are a six and a 7 ( for this example suits don’t matter ) and the flop came down 8-9-3. So as to complete your hand you would like a 5 or ten. You have 8 outs 4-5’s and 4-10’s. Multiply your outs ( 8 ) by 4 and you get 32.
You’ve got a 32 p.c likelihood of making your hand. A 32 % chance of making your hand means you’ve got a 68 % likelihood of NOT making your hand. This is roughly 2 to one that you will not make the hand. So as long as the pot contains $2 for each $1 you have got to call, it is worth going after your straight. Doing these fast calculations and translating them can be extremely tricky and confusing for a newb ( and many advanced players as well ). But I’d suggest that you at least be well positioned to quickly figure out your outs to offer you an idea of just how likely you are to make your hand.
